Loved, Valued, Challenged

Along with homework, this half-terms spellings have been handed out and stuck in your child's homework book. Spellings will be tested the following Friday during the school day. These will be tested in a spelling book which will be kept in school and the scores will be given to the children to share with you. You will notice that as we progress through each week, spellings are repeated. This is to consolidate spellings and ensure that the children are using these in their everyday writing.

I will be handing out Common Exception Word cards to each child as the beginning of the year to use as flashcards at home to help them with their spellings. Most of our spellings will be based on these but there will also be topic words are words that I think that the children need to know how to spell, e.g. Jesus, Christmas.

I have also added PDFs of all of the Common Exception Words children should be able to read and write by the end of Year 2, along with anyone who wishes to challenge their child/children to Year 3/4 words once that can spell the others and they are embedded in their writing.

Spellings will be added below.

Year 3 and 4 Common Exception Words - CEW - Large Flash Cards for children who can read and spell Year 1 and 2 CEWs in their writing and need a challenge

Year 2 Common Exception Words - CEW - Flash Cards

300 Keywords children need to read and write by the end of Year 2

Phase 2 to Phase 5 Tricky Words - children should have a good knowledge of how to read and spell these already
