Star of the week
Each week Mrs Knight, Miss Marshall and I will choose a child to be 'star of the week.' This is a very important job for the whole week as they do lots of important jobs like taking the register to the office and doing helpful tasks in the classroom. On Monday the chosen child will talk to the class about themselves, show their favourite toys and important photographs which are special to them. This time is very special to the children as they build confidence in talking in front of their friends.
Letters are sent out on Friday's for the following week.

Come and See
Our topic is Good News.
We are learning to... talk about and recognise how what good news is, what good news we have, the good news that Jesus comes back to life and Pentecost. We will also learn about and recognise what Pentecost is.
Our topic is 2D and 3D shape, capacity and weight.
This week, we are learning to...
names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes
measure and order height,
using words; short, shorter, shortest, tall, taller, tallest
Fiction books and Non-Fiction books
We will be learning all about fiction and non-fiction focusing on minibeasts. We are also learning to tell stories using actions.
We will also be focusing on our writing linked to our topic; writing and applying our phonic knowledge, writing captions and short sentences, story writing and extend our writing too.

On this website you will find a parent section as well as lots of games your children will love to play.
We started our phonics session just before the half-term holidays and started at phase 2 where we have been teaching the children phonemes (the sound the letter makes) and graphemes (what the letter looks like in the written form). So far we have learnt the following phonemes:

We have completed phase 2 and 3 phonics, next steps:
embed, apply and move onto phase 4 phonics (CVCC and CCVC words)

We will be reading with the children once a week. Please check your child's orange reading diary to see when they will be reading. Please ensure you keep your child's reading book and reading diary in your child's book bag at all times.
Every time your child reads, please write in their reading diary along with a comment. We will be reading twice in school; individual reading and guided group reading.
If you read a total of five times a week, this includes reading sessions in school, your child will receive a stamp on the grid in the front of their diary.
For every 25 stamps, your child will be presented with a reading certificate.
It is very important your child reads their school reading book at least 4 times to build up their skills and confidence.
Please ensure that reading books and your child's orange reading diary is kept in their book bags at all times.
Thank you for logging onto Active Learn Primary to access maths games and online books. As outlined in our January newsletter, I will assign at least one new maths game on Abacus and a online book on Bug Club.

All of the children are doing well with their games.
Some children are learning to recognise their sounds by sight
(there are 4 sound games) and some children are learning to recognise their tricky and high frequency keywords by sight (there are 10 word games which are made up of tricky words - words that cannot be sounded out - and high frequency keywords - words that can be sounded out.)
Keywords are made up of words tricky words and high frequency words.
The children need to be able to recognise the sounds/words by sight, without having to think about what the sound or word is.
When the children can do this, we will then change their game accordingly.
Please ensure you keep your child's Bingo game is kept in your
child's book bag at all times.

Once the children can write their full names independently without looking at their name cards, I will give them a set of keywords to learn to spell in a yellow keyword book. Our keywords are linked to Bingo word sets. Bingo games focus on the reading of word and the yellow keyword book focuses on the spelling.
The children may be able to read more keywords than they can spell, for example, they may be on Bingo word 3 and learning to spell set 2 keywords.
