Meet the Class 1 team

Mrs Knight, Mrs Bradley and Miss Duong

This week's statement to live by is:

'I try to forgive people when they hurt me.'

Class 1 would like to offer a BIG, BIG welcome to the new children and families who will soon be joining our school community. I'm sure you'll all remember this time last year getting ready for your child to begin visiting the school so please offer a friendly face to any nervous new faces you see at school. This also mean children in Class 1 will begin visiting Class 2 at different times throughout the term, finding out about what it means to be in Key Stage 1.

on Wednesday 16th July 2014, classes 1, 2 and 3
Photos to be loaded onto the 'Latest News' tab under 'KS1 Carnival Day' very shortly
Thank you to all the helpers on the day who did a fantastic job!

Our main topic for this term is
'The Environment' with a focus on

 The Jungle

During this time of the year class 1 staff will be completing each child's end of year formal assessment based on achievements they have made and work produced. We also use our knowledge of the children in terms of how they speak and interact with adults and other children. You will receive a report on their first years' achievement towards the end of July. If you have any contributions to send in such as made up stories (verbal and/or written) or number problems solved for example, we will be happy to use those too.

Please see the 'Eco Schools' tab to see all of the peas and potatoes that we have been growing with Sandra. We have also been gardening with Keith who has been helping the children to plant and weed our outside area; Jubilee Garden and Peace garden.

Thank you so much!

'Friends' is our new topic in
Come and See. Children will be reporting learning all about friendship, what is means and how God's friends help us in our daily lives.
Red is the lithurgical colour of the season.

The trip was an amazing day. Thank you to our helpers; Keith, Ian, Louise, Louise and Mrs Rush. See the link for some photos from the day. See the website link below if you would like further information, or wish to make a visit yourselves. They are running some medieval themed days in the Summer Holidays!

The children have been asking for a class 1 'show' involving singing and dancing, so this term our focus in our creative development sessions will be to tell a story, musical, using the children's movement ideas. Fingers crossed this will build nicely into a class assembly at the end of term.

Please continue to enjoy our borrowing box. Your child may change their book as often as they wish as it is a facility for you to simply enjoy.

Please regularly check your child's book bag for any letters announcing forthcoming date. We will also place key dates on this page.

This half term Mrs Bradley and Mrs Knight will be changing reading books on a Monday.

 Helpers
If you are able to spare a few hours of your time to help in Class 1, it would be grately appreciated; reading, baking and general support within the classroom. Please let me know if you are able to help.
Thank you for your support in advance.

Phonics

To support our teaching of phonics, a website you may wish to visit with your child is www.phonicsplay.co.uk On this website you will find a parent section as well as lots of games your children love playing in school...especially the pirate or dragon game. To ensure your child is practising the correct level, ask them who their phonics teacher is and select the correct phase from the options.

We will be continuing learning more sounds of the alphabet with an emphasis on ready and writing vc and cvc words.

Star of the week

Each week we will choose a child to be 'star of the week.' This is a very important job for the whole week as they do lots of important jobs like taking the register to the office and doing helpful tasks in the classroom. On Monday the chosen children talk to their group about themselves and show their favourite toys and important photographs which are special to them. This time is very special to the children as they build confidence in talking in front of their friends. Letters are sent out on a Friday to the chosen children for the following week.

The 'Star of the Week' this week is...to be decided for next week

As every member of class one has been the 'star of the week', we will have 'star of the day.' 'The star of the day. for Monday is...

We will have PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this term. Please ensure you have your child's FULL PE kit in school at all times please (including indoor and outdoor).

Congratulations to our appointed School Councillors Lily and James, and to our class Eco Warriors Konradd and Ellie F.
